Kidsleep Clock
The 'easy to understand' children's clock showing your child when to stay in bed and when to get up; combining a nightlight for babies and alarm clock for older children

Image

Many parents suffer with a lack of sleep due to their children waking very early in the morning. Kidsleep is a revolutionary sleeping aid which is very easy to understand for children aged 2 years and up. Kidsleep works by showing children in a simple way when it is time for them to get up and when they should be staying in bed. When the child wakes up they simply look at the clock face - the lit image will show either a sleeping animal (time to go back to sleep!) or a wide awake animal (time to get up!) All you need to do is set the clock for the time you want your child to get up and show them that when the sleeping picture is lit they should stay in bed. You can make it fun and get them to play-act sleeping in their bed with the sleeping picture on, then getting out when the wide awake picture comes on. Most children take this on board rapidly as the visual cue is very straightforward and within a week will be staying in bed until the wide-awake picture lights up. You can reinforce their behaviour with plenty of praise and attention when they don't wake you earlier than they should. However, don't worry, we know that some children are more determined than others! As with most things just keep reinforcing the message and the child will learn. A good tip is to set the waking time near to when your child is normally waking up (ie if your child is waking at 5am, start by setting the clock to change images at 5.15am); once your child is used to the idea you can then move the wake up time gradually forward. After a few days your child will be used to their new companion and start getting out of bed when the animal wakes up. Sweet dreams!

History

Some children - much as they are loved - make parents life a nightmare because their sleeping pattern means they often wake early leaving their parents sleep-deprived and exhausted.
Ian Bird, the MD of arf-kids, faced exactly this problem - his son Sam was up every morning at 4 or 5am. Nobody was getting much sleep and everybody was tired and fraught. Then Ian had an idea - why not create a product that would tell Sam when it was ok to get up and come into bed with Mummy and Daddy?

Ian made a prototype out of a supermarket lunch box, with two images on the front with lights behind them and a timing device. When it was time for bed Wee Willy Winky came on; when it was time to get up Humpty Dumpty came on. Within a week Sam was staying in bed until Humpty Dumpty came on!
Ian looked into the idea of producing the product commercially but discovered his idea has been patented by a Swiss man called Vincent Claessens two years previously with the 'Kidsleep' clock. Ian rang Vincent and met him in Switzerland - Kidsleep was selling well on the continent but Vincent was looking for a UK distributor.

Vincent has seen his Kidsleep invention help over 30,000 children (and their parents!) in 2 years. A runaway success in its home country of Switzerland; Kidsleep is also selling well in France and Belgium.

What the parents say:

"The Kidsleep clock is one of the best investments we've made. It helped our 4 year old son Isaac settle his sleeping pattern which has been very erratic over the past year or so. As soon as we started using the clock it transformed our lives, he has slept happily through the night and waited until the rabbit has 'woken up' before getting out of bed. It can also be used as a nightlight for a young baby and an alarm clock for an older child so grows with your child".

"A perfect gift for first time parents who are sleep deprived and wanting a good night's sleep!"
