Key Features: Eco-eye comprises of a wireless sender unit which attaches to any live cable (usually at the meter) and a display unit which can be wall-mounted, freestanding or portable. Eco-eye was designed in response to the UK government’s target to reduce carbon emissions by 10% by the year 2010. It is currently working on a draft Climate Change Bill, which sets out a framework for moving the UK to a low-carbon economy. However, in practical terms, little concrete provision has been made to date to actively encourage the householder to use less electricity and thereby reduce carbon emissions.
This is where Eco-eye comes in. By using Eco-eye and learning how your electricity usage is spread, you will be able to make an informed choice of where and when to make savings.
Eco-eye is a wireless system which constantly measures the amount of electricity coming into your home. The sender unit simply clips onto the cable running between your electricity meter and fuse box, relaying information which is updated every 4 seconds to a display unit located elsewhere in your home.
Primarily an educational tool, Eco-eye displays data either in Kilowatts or cost per hour, day, month or year. It also has a facility to show CO2 emissions. This gives you visual proof, in meaningful terms, of just how expensive some of your appliances really are. We believe this will provide sufficient information which will give you the much-needed incentive to make changes. The easy to use memory function stores a record of your consumption and will enable you to see at a glance if you are making improvements over a period of weeks or months.
As the monitor is portable, you will be able to take it anywhere within a 30m radius of the sender unit and take readings to identify which of your appliances are the most power-hungry. For example, take a reading on Eco-eye, plug in the appliance you want to check and watch the reading increase.
